Implementation Reports

Purpose

This Standard defines Implementation Reports as the canonical engineering record of implementation activities.

Implementation Reports preserve traceability between engineering intent, implementation work, and governance decisions.

Standard

Engineering work shall produce an Implementation Report prior to Architecture Review.

Implementation Reports document implementation activities.

They do not replace Architecture Reviews or engineering Specifications.

Principles

Implementation Reports shall:

  • preserve implementation traceability
  • summarize implementation outcomes
  • document implementation scope
  • improve engineering transparency
  • support Architecture Reviews
  • support release governance
  • preserve implementation history

Required Contents

Implementation Reports should include:

  • Repository
  • Branch
  • Task Identifier
  • Summary
  • Files Created
  • Files Modified
  • Files Deleted
  • Pull Request
  • Notes
  • Questions
  • Known Limitations

Additional information may be included when appropriate.

Merge

Implementation Reports shall precede Architecture Reviews.

Traceability

Implementation Reports should reference:

  • Work Order
  • Specifications
  • Standards
  • ADRs
  • Pull Requests
  • Architecture Review

Implementation Reports should preserve engineering lineage.

Exceptions

Minor editorial corrections may not require an Implementation Report.

Governed engineering artifacts shall require documented implementation.

Relationship to Architecture Reviews

This Standard operationalizes STD-0009 — Architecture Reviews.

Architecture Reviews evaluate engineering work using the Implementation Report as one of their primary inputs.

Relationship to the Operating Model

Applied through:

  • Work Orders
  • Implementation
  • Architecture Reviews
  • Release Management

Compliance

Engineering work conforms when:

  • Implementation Reports are produced.
  • Traceability is preserved.
  • Reports accurately summarize implementation.
  • Reports precede Architecture Review.

Future Evolution

May define:

  • Automated Report Generation
  • AI-Assisted Reporting
  • Repository Analytics
  • Implementation Metrics
  • Cross-Repository Reporting
