Definition
Specification-Driven Development (SDD) is the AAOE standard engineering approach in which teams define explicit Specifications before implementation begins. Specifications become the authoritative reference throughout implementation, and implementation is expected to conform to them unless a governed change is approved.
Why It Matters
During the SolOh ERP Modernization, AI implementation quality varied greatly when requirements were incomplete, and became predictable once specifications were complete and stable. Specification-Driven Development generalizes that observation into a standard practice: engineering quality correlates more strongly with specification quality than with prompt quality.
