Context Engineering

Definition

Context Engineering is the engineering discipline responsible for intentionally designing, structuring, maintaining, and governing the context provided to humans and AI systems. It requires context to be explicit, structured, traceable, reusable, maintainable, and governed, rather than relying on implicit human knowledge.

Why It Matters

Context that isn't deliberately curated tends to become tribal, fragmented, or forgotten. Context Engineering turns engineering knowledge into organizational capital: searchable, reusable, reviewable, and improvable, rather than something each new initiative has to rediscover from scratch.
