Definition
Governance is the discipline that defines how engineering knowledge is created, validated, organized, versioned, and evolved, preserving the integrity of the AAOE Body of Knowledge. Governance governs knowledge; it does not govern software projects or prescribe engineering execution — that is the role of the Operating Model.
Why It Matters
Without governance, terminology diverges, observations become opinions, specifications conflict, evidence becomes disconnected, and engineering knowledge loses traceability. Governance provides the structure required for knowledge to evolve while preserving its history and integrity.
